Here Comes The Science Bit!

We all remember the patronising advert and it’s science bit, but how many beauty professionals actually know the science behind their brands?

When choosing the products you want to use, there can be a lot of hype to wade through. Every brand has a wealth of scientific evidence to back up their claims, but if they were all correct then we would all look like 16 year olds with perfect nails and lustrous locks.

I am not saying that the claims made are untrue but there is an awful lot of spin to cut through. Some brands rely on their reputation when presenting new products. If they have an already successful range then they play on the loyalty of their customer base to buy into anything new. Others wheel out clever looking scientists to explain why this product is the best. It is, of course, worth checking who the scientist works for!

Many brands will use scientific names for ingredients and processes in the hope that you will never check what they mean. This could be for the effectiveness of a UV lamp, the youthful properties of anti-ageing ingredients or the painlessness of waxing. These days, Google is your friend. You do not need a chemistry degree to check out a few terms and find more information for yourself.

When you choose a brand, it should one you truly believe in. By looking behind the fancy marketing you can discover what lies at the heart of a brand to see whether it is really for you.

Simply put, do your research and don’t believe the hype!
